Islington Streets to Close for Car-Free Sunday
Pedestrians and cyclists to take over popular roads
Seven streets in Islington will be closed to cars this Sunday (25 September) for the borough's latest car-free day.
The closures will be in place from 10am to 6pm, and will affect the following streets:
- Upper Street, from Highbury Corner to Canonbury Road
- Essex Road, from Canonbury Road to Old Street
- Columbia Road
- Broadway Market
- Chatham Place
- Geffrye Street
- Arnold Circus
During the closures, these streets will be open to pedestrians and cyclists only. There will be a range of activities taking place throughout the day, including live music, street performances, and food stalls.
Islington Council's transport chief, Councillor Claudia Webbe, said:
"Car-free days are a great opportunity for people to experience their local area in a different way. They're also a chance to reduce air pollution and improve road safety."
